The Tafel food rescue programmes in Germany

Since the founding of the Berliner Tafel e.V. in 1993 the idea of a food rescue programme has served as an example, prompting the establishment of many more Tafel-societies all over Germany. Today there are far more than 660 food rescue programmes in as many towns and cities.

Therefore in September 1995 an umbrella organisation known as the Deutsche Tafelrunde was established in Berlin, which was later renamed Bundesverband (federal association) Deutsche Tafel e.V. The federal association's aim is to provide a network between independent Tafel-societies which operate to serve the needs of their local clientele. The federal association secures support of sponsors on a national level and facilitates the exchange of experiences between its member societies.
